From the new owners: "After much deliberation, we regret to inform you that the Chimney Mountain Trail head is temporarily closed to the public.  Cabin at Chimney Mountain vacation guest can still access the trail head.  On the night of 12AUG23 we had a hikers unleashed dog attack a cabin guests’ dog.  This was a tragic situation where the attack dog grabbed the other dog by the neck and viscously shook it, taking 3 large adult males to separate the attack dog.  This was only one of the many incidents we have had to manage to keep the trail head open through our private property.  We purchased the Cabins at Chimney Mountain property in the spring this year, we are two people with no additional full-time staff managing 10 cabins and 280 acres.  It was our full intention to keep the trail access through our private property open, however we are at the point where we feel it is our responsibility to keep not only ...

  Mar 4, 2022 -  SECOND POND xc ski. Siamese Ponds Wilderness. Very nice snow conditions, & you can't beat those blue skies in winter. Elevations between 2,235' & 2,525'. It often seemed like we were going up or coming down. Good powder skiing on the pond - no slush/wetness. 3.8 hours. Apr 16, 2019 - April 16 - SECOND POND ski. The trailhead on Chatiemac Lake Rd is at 2,320" - one of the highest elevation trailheads in the Adks. Siamese Ponds Wilderness. 0-30" of snow, the trail had a hard spine/monorail & softened somewhat as time progressed, off-trail the snow was nice. Soon went off-trail to the R down to a vly with a view of Gore Mtn but less than half the vly had any snow. Back on the trail it was ok for a bit then I started hitting bare & wet spots so decided to ski off-trail wherever the snow took me - found 2 more small vlies & a flagged route to the S. 2.6 hours. April 28, 2016 - Hike from 13th Lake on the newer red trail off from the Peaked Mtn Pond trail, 500' gain in 1 mile. Checked out the campsites at the pond. Flowering: yellow violets, spring beauties; purple trillium just starting to come out. Some mud, but not too bad. 8.2 miles, 5.5 hours. Feb 8, 2009 - HOUR POND. From Old Farm trailhead. Siamese Ponds Wilderness. Temp slightly above freezing at the start (mostly heavy wet powder), slightly below freezing at the end (tracks icing up). Branched off Puffer Pond Trail to Hour Pond & lean-to. Took new red trail back down to 13th Lake - advanced skiing today, intermediate+ in perfect conditions. Crossed lake with lots of slush/water to Elizabeth Point & back up to start. 8 miles, 6 hours. Jul 20, 2008 - THIRTEENTH LAKE paddling & HOUR POND hiking. Raining often. Southeast of Indian Lake village. Jan 9, 2020. JOHN & CLEAR PONDS ski. Siamese Ponds Wilderness. Temp at start 10F rising to 20F, blue skies, no wind. Very good skiing on a solid base (~6") topped with 3"-7" of powder (more in open areas & hardwoods, less in the softwoods which still held snow on the branches). Fairly easy skiing to JP. Someone had skied the first mile - easy breaking trail after that - I broke the whole way despite having 4 others who could help. Some wetness below the powder on the ponds (the prepared skier always brings a scraper). Lunch on JP in the sun, felt warm, quick stop at the lean-to. Intermediate skiing to CP with some short steep downhills on return. Some blowdown. Back the same route. 8.2 miles, 4.7 hours. Doing the loop would have been shorter but we wanted more skiing.
