PROSPECT MOUNTAIN hiking, Lake George NY

Image
Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Parkway climbs 5.5 miles from the entry gate to a parking lot just below the summit. There are three separate overlooks along the parkway-the Narrows, Lake George, and Eagle's Eye-from which to enjoy the scenery of the Adirondack Mountains and Lake George. April 24, 2026 - PROSPECT MOUNTAIN hike. Cloudless, temp low to mid-50s, no wind - had to do something. Up the red trail. Crossed the parkway then saw lots of hepatica. Steep up on smooth rock slabs. Spotted some trailing arbutus (not common, one of the first flowers out in spring). No flowers above 1500'. Spent an hour on the summit area. Down a bit on the red trail, then over and up on the unofficial orange (large faded paint blazes), then R on unofficial blue trail which rejoins the red trail above the parkway. Up the Raymond Brook Trail (Vanderwhacker Mtn Wild Forest) - 3 bridges had narrow spines of snow, don't like but made it across without falling in the water. SE on an unofficial trail that goes around the N side of Pete Gay Mtn - goes thru unposted private land, just behave - thru-the-trees views to the N & E - very good skiing. Steep up & over a shoulder of PG Mtn & down to power line & ID - warning, some bare spots & water near the bottom. Explored further. Topped out at 2900'. Back the same way. Skiing should be good here for the next day or 2 - after that, brook crossings c...
