PROSPECT MOUNTAIN hiking, Lake George NY

  Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Parkway climbs 5.5 miles from the entry gate to a parking lot just below the summit. There are three separate overlooks along the parkway-the Narrows, Lake George, and Eagle's Eye-from which to enjoy the scenery of the Adirondack Mountains and Lake George. April 24, 2026 - PROSPECT MOUNTAIN hike. Cloudless, temp low to mid-50s, no wind - had to do something. Up the red trail. Crossed the parkway then saw lots of hepatica. Steep up on smooth rock slabs. Spotted some trailing arbutus (not common, one of the first flowers out in spring). No flowers above 1500'. Spent an hour on the summit area. Down a bit on the red trail, then over and up on the unofficial orange (large faded paint blazes), then R on unofficial blue trail which rejoins the red trail above the parkway. PROSPECT MOUNTAIN xc skiing, Lake George NY

  Note: When there is a lot of snow, the 5.5-mile Prospect Mtn Veterans Memorial Highway is open for snowmobiling so, if you want a quieter ski, pick a day when there are just a few inches of snow (6" is nice).  Check this site to see if open to snowmobiles . March 14, 2026 - PROSPECT MOUNTAIN xc ski. A good option in low snow conditions. Carried the skis up the steep red trail (0.5" of snow) to the toll road and skied up from there. 2" of fresh powder on a variable icy base. 3" powder above 1200' el. Had some decent uphill glide. Low 30s, mostly cloudy, Gusty winds. Had the summit to myself for 45 minutes, found a dry picnic table for a quick lunch and hot coffee. No High Peaks view today, could not even see Black Mtn at first. Not too fast going down, the wind had blown the powder off in a couple of places. Went down as far as Stannard Pond - skiable but snow cover was getting thin. Bad foot complained on the hike down and the other foot was not too happy eith...
