JABE POND, LAKE GEORGE ROGERS ROCK, SOUTH BAY LAKE CHAMPLAIN paddling.

Image
June 9, 2014 - JABE POND in Hague.  Mile drive on a dirt road, bumpy on a steep hill.  100-yard carry to the pond.  Just a mile & a half from Lake George but very different, 1,000' higher in elevation.  Less than 1 mile long but 3 miles of irregular shoreline & some piney islands to explore, good wilderness feel.  Lake George Wild Forest.  Osprey, loons, polliwogs in sandy shallows.  Saw a few blackflies but they did not seem too interested in my blood.  4+ hours (half the time relaxing at a campsite).     June 9 - LAKE GEORGE from Rogers Rock State Campground.  Stopped at the boat inspection station at the campground & was told that canoes & kayaks don't have to be inspected - it's just for trailered boats.  Windy early but calmed down.  Clear emerald water.  Cliffs to the N of the campground.  Passed diminutive Juniper Island to view Rogers Slide.  Anthony's Nose across the lake & ...

THE BEST WEEK-LONG PADDLING TRIP IN THE ADIRONDACKS

Image
We are lucky to have many scenic lakes, ponds and other waterways in the Adirondacks that are available for us to paddle. However, it is not so easy for the tripper to find a true wilderness route in the Adirondacks of over 50 miles – one that is essentially motorless, does not cross any paved roads, and has minimal sights and sounds of civilization. Paddlers have traveled far and wide to places like Ontario's Algonquin Provincial Park and Minnesota's Boundary Waters to get that wilderness tripping experience. The Adirondack Park does not have the quantity of routes that those places offer but it does offer areas of superior scenic quality, especially when it comes to mountain views. The trip from Little Tupper Lake to the Oswegatchie River via Lake Lila and Lows Lake qualifies as the Adirondacks' best paddling route. Paddlers with less time or energy can sample parts of this route. For day-trippers and weekenders, Little Tupper Lake, Lake Lila, Lows Lake and the Osw...

SARATOGA area hiking

Saratoga-style lean-tos.  Aug 28 - GREENTREE LAKE.  Nice & peaceful. Aug 25 -  Wanted to continue scouting out the Southern Palmertown Range with a visit to LINCOLN MOUNTAIN STATE FOREST https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/107159.html . From Locust Grove Rd, took a R on Greene Rd & in 0.1 miles took a L on dirt road with my mtb. Soon saw state land signs on the R. Went somewhat further until posted signs on the R. Ditched the bike & bushwhacked NE thru open woods with little understory staying to the R of the posted signs & yellow paint blazes. Reached a swampy area, the headwaters of Stony Brook, & soon turned back. Biked on pavement over to Cohen Rd which goes past a few houses then turns to dirt/rock into the SF. Spent some time at the pond, then out. Over to Lincoln Mtn Rd & Clothier Rd to MOREAU LAKE SP & took a walk to LAKE BONITA for lunch - mellow. Aug 19 -  GREENTREE LAKE hike, from Greene Rd, Greenfield Center, a few miles N...
